Junior Herbalist Club Level 1 comes to Marden!
Welcome to the Junior Herbalist Club!
Please read the following before signing your children up.
The JHC is an extracurricular course for children suitable for children age 8+, which will be run during school time at LA Marden. The aim is to let children learn about the healing and medicinal plants all around them in a safe and supervised environment.
Each month we will be learning about a new medicinal herb with stories, songs, growing, harvesting, and making something to take home - lavender bags, lip balms, bath bombs, lotions, potions and much more!
The course is proudly supported by the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and The College of Practitioners of Physiotherapy.
By the end of the course, children will be able to:
- Identify common herbs growing all around from gardens to parks and school grounds.
- Learn plant history and folklore with story telling and songs.
- Explore plant chemistry and understand their healing properties
- Safety – which herbs are safe to use and which are poisonous
- How to grow and harvest herbs
- Medicinal uses of common herbs
- How to use a variety of common herbs for first aid
- How to make a variety of herbal preparations to keep and take home
- Respect for all plants and their environment
- Complete a worksheet to build a portfolio of their learning.
Students will have gained:
- Confidence in identifying and using medicinal plants
- A solid foundation in herbal first aid and medicine making
- An appreciation for plant folklore, sustainability and nature conservation.
All classes are run by qualified Medical Herbalist Claire Overton who is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH). The JHC is also supported by NIMH.

WHEN:
Starting on Wednesday 9th September 2026 and then every second Wednesday each month.
Each session is 1.5 hours and starts at 12:30pm
DATES and COST:
£20 per session x 10 sessions = £200 payable upfront before Tuesday 1st September.

Places are not guaranteed until payment has been received.
Please note:
The children have to attend 8 out of the 10 classes to get their Level 1 certificate. If they miss classes you can pay to join in the missed classes the following year.
Children cannot progress to Level 2 if they have no completed and graduated from Level 1.
